It Started With Radios.
In 1996, David Summerbell Jr. founded Bell Communications Limited with a clear mission: become Jamaica's most trusted provider of two-way radio communications. Three decades later, that mission is now reality — Bell Communications is the leading authorized Motorola distributor in Jamaica, serving businesses, security operations, government agencies, and major events across the country.
That work took David and his team into every corner of Jamaican industry — construction sites, factories, ports, energy facilities, government operations. And on those sites, he kept noticing something: workers were doing dangerous jobs without the right safety gear.
A Gap Worth Closing.
Bell Safety Limited was founded in 2012 to fill that gap. The mission was simple but ambitious: bring world-class PPE — the same quality used by industries in the UK, US, and Europe — to Jamaican workers, backed by the customer-service approach that had made Bell Communications a 16-year success story by then.
From day one, the rules were clear. Only quality brands — no off-spec imports, no cutting corners. Real customer service — answer the phone, know your products, follow through. Anticipate problems before they happen — because on a job site, that's the difference between a normal Tuesday and a hospital visit.
The Trusted Source.
Bell Safety has grown rapidly from those early days. We now hold exclusive distribution rights in Jamaica for some of the world's most respected safety brands — Thorogood, Avenger, Bulwark, VF Imagewear, Skechers — alongside our deep partnerships with 3M, Ironwear, and others.
And our flagship partnership with Portwest — one of the world's largest PPE manufacturers — extends well beyond Jamaica. Bell Safety holds distribution rights across the entire Caribbean region, a level of trust and access that very few suppliers in this part of the world can claim.
Our clients today range from automotive dealerships to beverage manufacturers, from construction giants to government emergency services. Different industries, different risks, but the same expectation: that when they call Bell Safety, the gear arrives on time, fits properly, and meets the standards that workers' lives depend on.
"We pride ourselves on dealing with customers properly, and on solving problems before they happen. That hasn't changed since 1996, and it won't change tomorrow."
